What is Hyaluronidase?

​Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that naturally breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA) – the primary substance used in dermal fillers. If you’ve experienced an overfilled area, an asymmetrical result, or simply wish to reverse a previous treatment, Hyaluronidase can effectively dissolve the unwanted filler. The procedure involves a carefully administered injection of Hyaluronidase, which works by safely and quickly breaking down the HA filler. This treatment is used to correct or adjust filler outcomes, restoring a more natural, balanced appearance.

What Results Can I Expect?

After a Hyaluronidase treatment, most patients can expect to see a significant reduction in the volume or appearance of the filler within 24 to 48 hours, although the active enzyme will remain in the system for up to 14 days. The procedure is highly effective, and the filler dissolves gradually as the enzyme breaks down the hyaluronic acid. While the results can be quite dramatic, it's important to remember that Hyaluronidase doesn’t leave permanent changes to the area—filler will dissolve, but your natural tissue remains unaffected. If necessary, additional treatments can be performed to achieve the desired outcome.

What to Expect from Us

With this treatment being a Prescription Only Medicine (POM), you must book in for a consultation at least 48 hours before your treatment with our expert pharmacist. This can be booked easily online, and the cost of the consultation can be redeemed against treatment within 3 months.

 

You can then go ahead and book your elective dissolving appointment. Upon arrival, we begin with a thorough consultation to assess your filler and ensure Hyaluronidase is the best solution for your needs. An intradermal test will be carried out beforehand to provide an indication of whether or not you may have an allergy to the product. We monitor the injection site for 20-30 minutes, then proceed with the treatment if you show no reaction. In the case that you have a positive reaction for allergy, your injector will discuss options with you.

The treatment itself is quick and straightforward, typically lasting around 15 minutes. Dissolving has a similar sensation to dermal filler, however we aim to make you as comfortable as possible. Post-treatment, you are likely to notice swelling and bruising at the injection sites, but this typically fades within a couple of days. 

 

It is strongly recommended that you return for a complimentary 2 week review to assess your results and your injector will determine whether any more product is needed. If necessary, we can dissolve further to achieve your desired outcome.
